hello. i like to call this the cooking entry.
yesterday i made albóndigas -- that is, meatball stew. luckily for me and for the dish, by the time the day turned sour they were done and in the pot and all they had left to do was simmer.
today i copied down her mouth-watering peach upside-down cake recipe and made a shopping list for my mom. unfortunately we don't have a lot of the ingredients or a lot of money at the moment, so i might have to leave the peach cake for the next paycheck (poor mom), and make the apricot tarte tatin instead, from a recent ny times magazine recipe.
hey girly, aren't you proud of me for getting down & dirty dans la cuisine? when i can afford rapid-fire mail for myself, i'll fedex you something good, which is the least i can do for all the deliciousness you made for me & co. at school. [just think: if we hadn't randomly, drunkenly started chatting that night outside the co-op while consuming large quantities of shitty beer... none of this! of anything!]
and that's really all the food-related news i have to tell, but i was excited about it all, so i gave it preference. not that there's much else.
one cover letter and résumé went out today, woohoo!
i got lost this afternoon in the map of africa enclosed in this month's national geographic, and well. [what a surprise.] i was having dreams of being transported to the congo or south africa or kenya or, why not, djibouti. there is a beautiful lake in djibouti, and i'm sure that's the least of it. in the meantime, i hung the map up on my wall. for motivation.
also! i wrote an e-mail to a certain locale's mailing list a few days ago, and the list-updater wrote me back asking about the alma mater, and for a couple of days we were writing back and forth until i asked him (or her) what his (or her) name was. it turns out that it is the certain locale's dude-in-charge, and he generally doesn't do list-updating things, so it was all a crazy coincidence. another crazy coincidence is that i'm pretty sure he's the friend of a friend. so keep your fingers crossed for me and hopefully either a jobby-job or a friendship will come out of this one. thank you, internet, for occasionally redeeming yourself.
hello, friends of mine who still read this! i miss you. there hasn't been enough corresponding going on, and i'm starting to miss kenyon more than i should be doing.
one of these days i'm going to write the yo la tengo entry. it's been floating around in my head for a few days now and it's gonna need to be taken down soon.
on the agenda for tomorrow: cake and hip barber music! (what daniel's brother toni calls ylt. hee.)
