serendipity & things tangentially related to good karma:

1. late-night promenade (the snooty pronunciation, please) with her yesterday / wee hours of today. we walked to the elementary school and peered in the windows of the tiny cafeteria, and swung on the swings, and sat on massive concrete tubes, and talked about, to quote my lovely friend, who was probably poking fun at me, "very very important things." but we did. it's true.

2. julie found a beautiful silver cigarette case full of dunhills (!) in her car. and one sketchy menthol, but that's beside the point. and she gave them to me. if the case is yours and you happen to be reading this, please tell me and i'll give it back to you -- but i'm sorry, i'm smoking the cigarettes inside it. thank you absentminded smoker, thank you julie, thank you jah.

3. brucelee left a message and i just called him back from the computer lab. maybe our own little promenade later, in between article and article, paper and paper.

4. lovely long impatiently-awaited e-mail from her arrived today.

5. it rained.

6. last night b_ showed me a tree-lined clearing by a stream behind some apartments on campus. i think it is one of the most beautiful spaces i have seen here, and to think i will be leaving it in two weeks!

[but it is b_'s own anyway. i never did find my own secluded place. my favorite places on campus are a) the poetry corner in the bookstore, and b) the trestle-bridge over the kokosing river. and these are hardly private spots. this either means i've either been a) too lazy or b) too unimaginative to scour these parts for a good spot to claim for myself. the last real, extended nightwalk i took before yesterday's was with peter b_ sophomore year. he took lots of solitary walks and i think that's part of the reason why i dug him. i always do go for the boys with issues, don't i.]

11. ellen's pictures of our stainy weekend a while back when she was visiting. except i am puffy and red-eyed and drunk in both of them. but the rest of the kids look damn cute.

12. so i hear the college is making sure we stay good and drunk throughout senior week. let's hope.

13. senior week canoe trip! it's been five years.

14. i would like my friend back. the one i've had for four years. the one i will keep fighting for if she lets me, if she decides i am not a horrible person after all. the one who knows me, or tries to. yes, this is officially a reference to you. you know who you are.

15. mikey and kevvy are staying for senior week.
